Hayley and Trevor met 15 years ago and have never looked back. They are soulmates and parents together – they have faced the obstacles and joys that life has thrown at them and their journey has made them stronger. The current hurdle is a  ‚life taking‘ one as Hayley was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2016 which has not responded to treatment.  Hayley’s diagnosis has only recently been upgraded to terminal metastatic cancer that has reached her organs – giving her only months to live.

Hayley’s dying wish is to marry her Trevor and formalise their relationship, but more importantly to create those memories with and for him, their children, family and friends.

My Wedding Wish is a national charity that gifts weddings and same sex commitment ceremonies to the terminally ill and has brought the gift of love to couples Australia wide since 2013.

On Monday, 26th of June 2017, Hayley and Trevor have been granted their wedding wish and will marry in front of loved ones at John Laws Park, Burleigh. The wedding is gifted by over 20 of the Gold Coast’s finest My Wedding Wish suppliers who have connected and poured their love into this celebration of a lifetime for Hayley and Trevor. They ensure that Hayley and Trevor can have a care and burden free celebration without the stress of organisational challenges, time issues and limiting budgets. The couple are given the unique gift of growing bigger than their situation on this day, where love does conquer tragedy just for those moments.

My Wedding Wish is the dream-child of Marriage Celebrant, Dr Lynette Maguire who lives on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. Lynette is a passionate philanthropist and is well known for her bubbly personality and upbeat weddings. Under the outgoing exterior lives a person who was so touched by the ‘wedding that started it all’, that she decided something needed to be done to help the terminally ill be married with dignity. ‘It’s inspirational to do a call out in the wedding community around Australia, and have fully gifted wedding organised within a few hours’ says Dr Maguire about the process. “The wedding suppliers who get involved give a lot, but as a group they get so much back helping the couples to create the most precious of moments and memories.”

The charity has currently run a volume of weddings that together represent an estimated wish value of close to $500,000. Graced recently with an Australia Day Award nomination, My Wedding Wish is dreaming big.

The My Wedding Wish formula has begun to work all over Australia, with new suppliers and varying sponsors offering to come on board every day. Faced with all the challenges that rapid growth brings with it My Wedding Wish not only needs more wedding suppliers – it needs community support across the board.  The charity requires the funding to build and maintain a strong foundation and good systems across Australia.

Reaching out to Australians and gifting weddings to the terminally ill is more than an act of kindness. ‘It is our dream to grow and establish My Wedding Wish as the go to charity for the terminally ill who wish to marry around Australia’ says Dr Maguire, ‘I’m so excited to say that the My Wedding Wish charity is now up and running on the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers of New South Wales.  Our My Wedding Wish Angels are excited for Hayley and Trevor in the lead up to their wedding.  ‘We need everyone‘s help, so please donate and share the love – and help us make wishes come true!’
